In November 10, 2023, ITECH Vocational Charity donated 20 computers (10 laptops and 10 desktops) to AFOPET International School in Erin Oke. In November 2023, the charity further advanced its mission by establishing a state-of-the-art Computer Training Centre valued at N25 million for secondary schools, specifically at AFOPET College in Erin Oke, Oriade Local Government Area, Osun State.
During the commissioning of the facility last Thursday, the President of ITECH, Mr. Ladesuyi Adewale, highlighted that the N25 million investment covered the construction, procurement of computers and laptops, and the provision of scholarship awards for students.
According to Mr. Adewale, “Our objective is to equip young individuals with computer skills that will enable them to become self-employed. We aim to catch them young. Many of our youths are leaving the country without realizing they can achieve success in Nigeria. There are opportunities abroad, but they need skilled individuals, and that is the future we are preparing them for.”
Mr. Adewale further emphasized that the ICT centre aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge of computer programming, data analysis, and other relevant skills that will help them secure employment after graduation.
“Our motive is to catch them young and reduce the rate of migration abroad for jobs. The knowledge gained here will empower students to invest their skills in the country,” he stated.
“This initiative is our way of giving back to the community. The school is ready to support the students. Currently, we are offering scholarships to most of those in training. Two teachers are also undergoing training to transfer their knowledge to others. However, we aim to prepare students for foreign certification exams to increase their global employability, which they will need to finance themselves.”
Mr. Adewale also mentioned that the charity organization has a board of trustees consisting of successful professionals and businesspeople who have contributed to the N25 million expenditure covering building construction, computer procurement, and scholarship programs.
He called on the state government to support the program by providing additional computer gadgets and equipment to enhance the centre’s operations.
In a heartfelt tribute, it was announced that the computer lab within the centre would be named after His Royal Majesty Late Christopher Abiodun Adewumi Oyinlola, in honor of his legacy of wisdom and progress that continues to inspire the community.
